Former bollywood actor, Manoj Kumar, was born as Harikishen Giri Goswami on July 24, 1937. He is famous for his screen name ‘Bharat‘. He acted and directed several patriotic bollywood flicks. He is married to Shashi Goswami. Manoj did his graduation from Hindu College of Delhi University. He started off his career as a leading hero in 1960 released Kaanch Ki Gudia. But he was first noticed in the movie Hariyali Aur Raasta opposite beautiful Mala Sinha. The pair also did another film together titled Himalaya Ki God Mein.

He won several acclaims for his performance as a patriotic person in Shaheed. He then went ahead to his first directorinal venture titled Upkar which became a big hit of that time. He also won his first Filmfare Best Director Award for the film. he was next seen in the movie titled Neel Kamal. He gave another hit film in the form of Aadmi. He once again turned towards his patriotic image and delievered another hit film in the form of Purab Aur Paschim in which he starred opposite gorgeous Saira Banu for the first time. He won the Filmfare Best Actor Award for his absolute stunning performance in Be-imaan.

His next notable film was Roti Kapada Aur Makaan opposite Zeenat Aman. He did some commercial films too in the form of Sanyasi, Dus Numbari etc. His next patriotic film was multistarrer Kranti which also starred Dilip Kumar, Shashi Kapoor and Hema Malini in important roles alongside of Manoj himself. His last two films Clerk and Maidan-E-Jung failed to do well at the box office after which he decided to get retired from film industry. In the year 1999 he was rewarded with Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award.
