Bollywood movie, Maqbool, written and directed by Vishal Bharadwaj was released on 30 January 30, 2004. The movie starred Irfan Khan and Tabu in lead roles while Pankaj Kapoor, Naseeruddin Shah and Om Puri laso played important roles n the film. The movie was distributed under the banner of Yash Raj Films Pvt. Ltd. The muisc of the film was given by Vishal Bharadwaj and the songs were sung by Daler Mehndi, Sadhna Sargam, Ustad Sultan Khan, Auradha Sriram, Rakesh Pandit etc. The movie is an adaptation of the famous play Macbeth by Shakespeare. Actor Pankaj Kapoor went on to win a Filmfare Award for Best Actor (Critics) for his performance in the film.

The movie starts with Maqbool ( Irfan Khan ), who is an orphan adopted by underworld don, Jahangir Khan aka Abba Ji ( Pankaj Kapoor ). Now Maqbool is the right hand man of Abba ji. Nimmi ( Tabu ) is Abba Ji’s beautiful mistress. Nimmi and Maqbool are fascinated towards each other. Nimmi asks him to kill Abba ji and take over the seat of Don. Though Maqbool wants to be loyal with Abba Ji but Nimmi somehow convinces him to prepare ground for becoming don.

Finally, Maqbool gets the courage to kill Abba ji. He brutly murders Abba ji while he was enjoying at bed with Nimmi. Now Maqbool takes over as don. But some gang members are suspicious about Maqbool’s role in Abba Ji’s sudden death. On the other hand, Maqbool and Nimmi are also haunted by the guilt they have done. They also see Abbaji’s ghosts here and there. Finally the lovers, Maqwbool and Nimmi, ends up getting the return of the guilt they have performed.
