Songs of Mirch Masala


The thriller and social drama Mirch Masala was released on February 18, 1987 under the banner of N F D C. The movie was directed by Ketan Mehta. The important roles in the film were enacted by Naseruddin Shah, Om Puri, Smita Patil and Dina Pathak while the roles of Deepti Naval, Suresh Oberoi, Paresh Rawal, Raj Babbar, Mohan Gokhale and Benjamin Gilani were also significant. The roles of Supriya Pathak, Ram Gopal Bajaj and Neena Kulkarni were also good.

The movie Mirch Masala was a thriller cum social drama that raised the social issues in ancient India. The movie showcased the era of British India. The story of the movie starts with a ill natured Subedar ( Naseruddin Shah ) who along with a regiment of soldiers was required to collect taxes from a small town. He was therefore sent to the town with a regiment of soldiers. On his way he comes across a young married woman named Sonbai ( Smita Patil ).

Sonbai felt little unsecure as Subedar wanted to have her on his way. She insults him and tuns away. She takes shelter in the nearby pepper factory and was chased by the group of soldiers. The guard Chowkidar Abu Mian ( Om Puri ) of the factory wanted to help her and for that he closes the door of the factory and refused to let the soldiers get in. This angers the Subedar, and he asks the town Mukhiya ( Suresh Oberoi ), to get Sonbai to him, or else he will destroy his town. Mukhiya agrees to do so.
