The movie Mumbai Meri Jaan has been released on August 22, 2008 under the banner of UTV Motion Pictures. The movie has been directed by Nishikant Kamat and produced by Ronnie Screwvala. The actors in the lead roles were Paresh Rawal, Madhavan, Kay Kay Menon, Irrfan Khan and Soha Ali Khan and the supporting roles were played by Vijay Maurya and Sameer Dharmadhikari.

Mumbai Meri Jaan is the debut film of Nishikant Kamat as the director. Nishikant has directed many Tamil and Marathi films but this is his first Hindi film ever. The story of the movie revolves around the series of bomb blasts that happened on July 11, 2006 at the Mumbai’s local train sevice which also happens to be the lifeline of Mumbai. The movie also explores the consequences of it on the lives of six people of Mumbai. Rupali Joshi ( Soha Ali Khan ), a talented broadcast journalist, lost her fiancé in the blast and became helpless.

Nikhil Agarwal ( R. Madhavan ) who works in a multi-national company merely escaped the blasts but now fears the crowded locals. Suresh ( Kay Kay Menon ) who is an unemployed young man believes in racism and suspects every Muslim. Tukaram Patil ( Paresh Rawal ) is the cop who is just about to retire from his job. Thomas ( Irrfan Khan ) is a struggling tea vendor at a station. Sunil Kadam ( Vijay Maurya ), another confused police officer like Tukaram who wonders how the Mumbai police actually operates. Amongst the six stories displayed in the film, five leaves a strong impression and are of Paresh Rawal, Vijay Maurya, Irrfan Khan and Kay Kay Menon.
