Bollywood movie, Namak Halal, directed by Prakash Mehra was released in the year 1982. The movie starred Amitabh Bachchan, Shashi Kapoor and Parveen Babi in lead roles while Smita Patil, Om Prakash, Waheeda Rehman and Rajeet also played significant charactres in the film. The evergreen superhit music of the film was given by none other than famous music director, Bappi Lahiri and the songs were rendered by Kishore Kumar, Asha Bhonsle etc. The movie did well at the box office and also the songs of the film topped the music charts of that year.

The movie starts with Arjun Singh ( Amitabh Bachchan ), who is a very innoncent guy but with very sharp mind. He is brought up by his Daddu ( Om Prakash ) in a village. His Daddu forces him to go to city in search of a job so that he would turns in a responsible person. Arjun first refuses but later accepts his Daddu’s request. In city, he finds the job of a waiter in a five star hotel owned by Raja ( Shashi Kapoor ). He being very loyal to Raja becomes one of his close pal with whom Raja used to share his feelings. Arjun also meets with a beautiful lady, Poonam ( Smita Patil ) and eventually falls in love with her.

Arjun Singh reveals that Girdhar Singh ( Satyendra Kappu ) and his son, Ranjeet ( Ranjeet ) are planning to kill Raja for some reason. Arjun decides to protect Raja from all the harms. After that many attempts are made to kill Raja by Girdhar and Ranjeet, But everytime Arjun protects Raja. But how long will he be able to save Raja from the attacks? And what about his Daddu and Poonam?
