The comedy drama Naram Garam was released on February 28, 1981. The movie was directed by Hrishikesh Mukherjee and produced by Subhash Gupta and Uday N Singh. The key roles in the movie were enacted by Amol Palekar, Utpal Dutt, Swaroop Sampat and A K Hangal while Kiran Virale, Shatrughan Sinha, Padma Chavan, Suresh Chatwal, T P Jain and Javed Khan were also there in the movie. The music of the film was directed by R D Burman while the songs were sung by Asha Bhosle, Suresh Wadkar, Shatrughan Sinha, Sushma Shrestha and Sapan Chakravarthy.

The movie Naram Garam was a famous comedy movie, the story of which revolved mostly around an old man named chachaji who is currently in search of a house as his house had been pounded by the money lender and his young daughter, Kusum ( Swaroop Sampat ). The main story in the movie was provided by the character of Ramprasad ( Amol Palekar ) who is a poor young man employed under the Bhavani Shankar ( Utpal Dutt ) who is a middle aged superstitious widower.

The movie takes a turn for Ramprasad when he was successful in winning the court case that Bhavani Shankar had been fighting for a long time now. This gave Bhavani Shankar the possession of his ancestral house. When Ramprasad is assigned the responsibility of getting the house back in shape so that it can be re-occupied, chachaji and Kusum arrive there. This was not liked by the estate manager Gajanan Babu ( Suresh Chatwal ) who wanted to throw them out.
