The romantic family drama movie, Naya Kadam was released on 4 October 1984. K Raghvendra Rao directed as well as produced the movie. Bappi Lahiri was the music director while Kishore Kumar and Asha Bhonsle sung the songs for the movie. The star cast of the movie included Rajesh Khanna, Sridevi and Jaya Prada while Ranjeet, Padmini Kolhapure, Kader Khan and Om Shivpuri played the supporting roles.Kader Khan also wrote the dialogues for the movie.

Jaggu ( Om Shivpuri ) and Madhukar ( Kader Khan ) are Hitler like autocrats who dictate terms over a poor and underprivileged village with an iron hand. They deliberately maintain the custom of illiteracy to oppress and humiliate the weaker ones. However, unaware to both of them a young boy named, Ramu ( Rajesh Khanna ) continues his education with the help of an aged schoolmaster, Srikanth (Satyendra Kapoor ).

After a few years, Ramu grows up and is expected to stand against the autocracy of Jaggu and Madhukar. They both perceive him as a warning and therefore plan for a conspiracy against him. They succeed in outsmarting him. They leave him with no alternative except for leaving the unfortunate villagers at the mercy of Jaggu and Madhukar again.
