The romantic drama, Noorie was released on June 1, 1979 under the banner of Yash Raj Films. Manmohan Krishna directed and Yash Chopra produced the movie. The star cast of the movie included Farooq Shaikh and Poonam Dhillon while Madan Puri, Iftekhar and Padma Khanna played the supporting roles. Asha Bhosle, Mahendra Kapoor, Lata Mangeshkar and Nitin Mukesh sang the songs while Khayyam gave the music for the movie.

Yusuf Fakir Mohammed ( Farooq Shaikh ) resides in scenic Kashmir valley and is deeply in love with a pretty woman , Noorie Nabi ( Poonam Dhillon ) . Yusuf asks Noorie’s father, Ghulam ( Iftekhar ) about the wedding her daughter but comically ends up conversing everything except the marriage.After he leaves, Noorie subtly explains to her father. His father is delighted to have Yusuf as his son-in-law. The wedding ceremony is arranged with great pomp and splendor.

However, fate has decided something else for Noorie. Few hours before the ceremony, Ghulam comes under a falling tree, dies instantly and the marriage is postponed. Thereafter a few months, Noorie’s relatives and well-wishers again persuade them to marry. But Yusuf’s supervisor sends him out of town due to some occupation for a couple of days. When Yusuf returns, he finds out that in his absence, Noorie committed suicide and no one was able to locate his body. Yusuf is lead by Noorie’s dog, Khairu who seems to know the reason behind Noorie and his father’s death.
