Yesteryear comedy blockbuster, Padosan, directed by Jyoti Swaroop was released in the year 1968. The movie starred Sunil Dutt and Saira Banu in lead roles while Kishore Kumar and Mehmood also played important roles in the film. The movie was distributed under the banners of Kailash Dossani Investments Pvt. Ltd. and Mehmood Productions. The evergreen hit music of the movie was given by Rahul Dev Burman and the songs were sung by Kishore Kumar, Manna Dey and Lata Mangeshkar. The movie did well at the box office.

The movie starts with a guy named Bhola ( Sunil Dutt ) who falls in love with his new beautiful neighbor Bindu ( Saira Banu ). In order to woo her, he takes the help of his friend, Vidyapati aka Guru ( Kishore Kumar). They learns that Bindu loves music. Guru asks Bhola to become a singer so that Bindu would automatically get attracted to him. But the problem is that Bhola isn’t a good singer. In the end, it is decided that Guru, who is a famous singer himself, will sing the songs and Bhola will perform the lip movements on them.

Bindu gets attracted to Bhola after hearing the song as she is not known to the fact that Guru has actually sung the song. Bindu and Bhola become friends and later fall in love. Bindu also refuses her music teacher named Master Pillai’s ( Mehmood ) love proposal for Bhola. But one day Bindu finds out that Bhola is doing cheating with her. In a rage she decides to marry Master Pillai. But on the wedding day she gets the news that Bhola has comitted suicide.
