Bollywood movie, Pardes, written and directed by Subhash Ghai was released on 8 August 1997. The movie starred Shahrukh Khan and Mahima Chaudhary in lead roles while Amrish Puri and Apoorva Agnihotri also played important roles in the film. The superhit music of the film was given by the famous duo Nadeem Shravan and the songs were sung by Sonu Nigam, Shankar Mahadevan, Kumar Sanu, Udit Narayan, Hariharan, Kavita Krishanmurthy, Hema Sardesai etc. The movie was well recived by the audience and went on to became one of the biggest hit of that year.

The movie starts with the Kishorilal ( Amrish Puri ), who is a America based successful rich businessman. Despite of living in America for several years, Kishorilal is still deeply attracted towards Indian customs and culture. He visits India to meets his old friend, Suraj Dev ( Aloknath ). Suraj Dev is living in a village with his family. After spending few days at his friend’s home, Kishorilal gets attached to his daughter, Kusum Ganga ( Mahima Chaudhary ), and starts dreaming of her as his daughter-in-law.

Both friends agrees for the marriage of their childrens. Kishorilal send his foster son, Arjun ( Shahrukh Khan ) to convince his westernized son Rajiv ( Apoorva Agnihotri ) to visit India. Rajiv and Ganga falls in love with each other after their first eye contact and gives their nod for the marraige. Arjun also becomes best friend Ganga. Later Ganga realises that Rajiv really isn’t the person which he looks from outside. He starts developing feeling for Arjun.
