Bollywood fantasy movie, Pataal Bhairavi, directed by K. Bapaiah and written by Kadar Khan was released on May 3, 1985. The movie starred Jeetendra and Jayapradha in lead roles while Amjad Khan, Shakti Kapoor, Pran, Kadar Khan, Dimple Kapadia, Prema Narayan, Shoma Anand, Asrani and Bindu also played important roles in the film. The melodious music of the movie was directed by none other than very famous music director Bappi Lahiri while the songs were rendered by Kishore Kumar, K. J. Yesudas and Asha Bhonsle.

The movie starts with a guy named Ramchandra aka Ramu ( Jeetendra ), who lives alongwith his mother in the region ruled by Raja Vijay Singh ( Pran ). He is a brave guy and he proves it in front of the Raja Vijay Singh in the annual arena games. Rajkumari Indumati ( Jayapradha ) falls for his bravery and Ramu too falls in love with her. But Raja Vijay Singh is not happy with the relationship of Ramu and Induwati as he wants Indumati to marry a rich guy. Ramu promise him that he will become rich soon.

Ramu is helped by a magician named Mantrik ( Kadar Khan ), who tells him to travel several miles to save a goddess from a curse. Ramu does so and in the process he reveals that Mantrik has his own motive in helping him. He fools Mantrik and run away with all the wealth. He gives all the money to Raja Vijay Singh who immediately arranges the marriage of Ramu and Indumati. But everybody get shocked when Indumati disappears from the wedding ceremony.
