Bollywood drama flick, Pavitra Paapi, directed by Rajendra Bhatia was released in the year 1970. The movie starred Balraj Sahni and Tanuja in lead roles while Parikshat sahni, I. S. Johar, Manorama, Jagdish Raj, Achala Sachdev, Jayshree T., Aruna Bashir, Neetu Singh and Sadhana Patel also played important characters in the film. The melodious music of the movie was composed by the music director Prem Dhawan while the songs were rendered by Kishore Kumar, Mohammed Rafi, Lata Mangeshkar, Usha Mangeshkar etc.

Kedarnath ( Parikshat Sahni ) is living a poor lifestyle in the city. He is working in a ‘watch repair shop’, which is owned by Adarshan Lala ( I. S. Johar ). He come across a women named Maya ( Achala Sachdev ), who is roaming around the city alongwith her two daughters, Veena and Vidya. He learns that Maya is in search of his missing husband, Pannalal ( Balraj Sahni ). He tries to help her by providing a room on rent for them. He then also starts writing letters to her on behalf of her husband.

Maya’s elder daughter, Veena is now of marriageable age. Kedarnath decides to find a suitbale groom for Veena on his own. He arranges her marraige with the son of a welathy guy named Daulatram ( Shivraj ). Maya get excited with this news but once again becomes sad as she has no money for getting her daughter married. Kedarnath once again comes to her rescue and steals some cash from shop, where he is working. He then finally meets with Maya and delivers the moeny to her claiming that he is the best friend of Pannalal.
