The musical romantic movie Payal Ki Jhankar was released in the year of 1980. The movie was directed by Satyen Bose and produced by Tarachand Barjatya. The top roles in the movie were played by Komal Mahuakar, Shyama and Alankar while the supporting roles were played by Surinder Kaur and Veena. The music of the film was directed by Raj Kamal while the songs were sung by Sulakhshana Pandit and Vijay Yesudas.

The movie Payal Ki Jhankar was a romantic cum musical movie that revolved mostly around a young woman named Shyama. She was an orphaned lady who lived who lived with her family consisted of her aunt, uncle and several cousins. Her cousins included two girls who are of marriageable age and were required to get married. Shyama loved dancing a lot and this was supported by her uncle and aunt. The movie starts when one day she goes with a young man named Gopal to see the dance performance by an international artist named Veena.

Shyama along with her cousins seek the help of the famous artist Veena who along with her mentor Dinanath refused to help her. She was very disheartened and was asked to leave. She was very sad for what had happened and slept outside the door of her house as it was very late in the night. But this proved very costly to her as her aunt beats her for not reaching the home whole night. She felt very humiliated and thus ran away with Gopal.
