The family drama movie, Phulwari was released on 4 September 1984 under the banner of Rajshree Pictures. Mukul Dutt was the director. The lead cast of the movie involved Debashree Roy, Shashi Puri and Iftekhar while Dinesh Hingoo, Rati Agnihotri and Rakesh Bedi played the supporting roles. Raj Kamal gave the music and Haimanti Sukla and Yesudas sang the songs.

Lali Choudhary ( Debashree Roy ) is a young girl in early twenties who resides in an affluent lifestyle with her brother ,Arun ( Benjamin Gilani ) , father ( Iftekhar ) and her cousins Neetu ( Pallavi Dutt ) and Shobha ( Kumari Naaz ).Her father wishes her to get marry and therefore looks for appropriate groom for her. She rejects many men like Mohan ( Dinesh Hingoo ), Mr.Khatri ( Ram Mohan ) and Raviraj ( Mehmood). One day , Arun comes across an obliging person , Rajiv Mathur ( Shashi Puri ) who is engaged as a Welfare Officer in a nearby village .

Arun invites him at his place. Rajiv is not convinced with Lali’s impolite and discourteous behavior and chides her away publically. She departs in arrogance. However, after spending some time together, both of them get intimate with each other and soon decided to get marry with her brother’s approval. On the day of the engagement, Lali verbally abuses Rajiv, and reveals that she only wished to marry him because she wanted to take a revenge for her humiliation at his hands when he had insulted her. The movie deals with the impact of this situation on Rajiv’s mind and soul.
