Prem Pratigya was a family drama released on March 19, 1989. The movie was directed by Bapu while it was produced by B Loganathan. The top roles in the movie were played by Mithun Chakraborty, Vinod Mehra, Madhuri Dixit and Deven Verma while Satish Kaushik, Aruna Irani, Ranjeet, Neelu Phule and Kamal Deep were also there in the film. The music of the film was directed by Bappi Lahiri while the songs were sung by Kishore Kumar, Asha Bhosle and Bappi Lahiri.

Prem Pratigya was a social cum family movie that revolved mainly around two guys named Raja Bhaiya ( Mithun Chakraborty ) and Charan ( Satish Kaushik ) who have come to the big city in hopes of making a living but were not able to find jobs. They were eating food some day at a hotel where they were taunted and physically assaulted by Kallu Dada ( Ranjeet ). A fight ensues in which Raja wins which makes him uncrowned underworld don of the city and they started making their living by collecting taxes from the shopkeepers.

Raja started drinking alcohol and was also indulged in visiting a bar run by local belle named Rasili. One day Raja comes across a beautiful girl named Laxmi Rao ( Madhuri Dixit ) and was attracted to her. He helped Laxmi when her father Mohan ( Neelu Phule ) passed away, by helping her to cremate him. He also helped her again when she was in trouble when Kallu and his men were sexually molesting her. He again helped her when municipality wanted to ruin her hut. This was when he started living with her.
