Provoked was a social drama released on April 6, 2007 and was an English movie. The movie was directed by Jagmohan Mundhra and produced by Sunanda Murali Manohar. The actors in the top roles of the movie were Aishwarya Rai, Robbie Coltrane, Naveen Andrews and Nandita Das while there were other actors like Rebecca Pidgeon, Miranda Richardson and Nicholas Irons in the film. The music of the film has benn directed by A R Rahman. He has also given the background music of the film.

Movie Provoked is based on a real life story of an Indian lady named Kiranjit Ahluwalia. Kiranjit was much tortured by her husband and some day when it became unbearable for her, she murdered him. Her case brought a change in the British law. Kiranjit Ahluwalia ( Aishwarya Rai ) is married to Deepak Ahluwalia ( Naveen Andrews ) living in London. Kiranjit was happy to marry him and go to London but didn’t know what future had in reserve for her. Deepak was an alcoholic and enjoyed beating Kiranjit physically and mentally, after drinking. The couple had two children but love between them was not there.

One day when it became almost impossible for her to bear then in an act of self defence she set him on fire. Kiranjit got charged with first degree murder and there was no one to defend her. She accepted the charge and her life takes a good turn here. She become friends with a British lady Veronica Scott ( Miranda Richardson ) who was her cell mate and a rich lady. Kiranjit narrated her story to her and Veronica was stirred by it. She called her brother Lord Edward Foster ( Robbie Coltrane ), the Queen’s advocate, to appeal her case. Her case comes across a group of social workers who raises the issue to the media. She was finally set free.
