Bollywood patriotic action thriller, Pukar, directed by Rajkumar Santpshi was released on February 11, 2000. The movie starred Anil Kapoor and Madhuri Dixit in lead roles while Namrata Shirodkar, Om Puri, Farida Jalal, Rohini Hattangadi, Shivaji Satham, Danny Denzongpa, Kulbhushan Kharbanda, Mukesh Rishi, Girish Karnad, Govind Namdev, Sudhir joshi and Yashpal Sharma also played important roles in the film. the music of the film was given by famous music director A. R. Rehman while the songs were sung by Shankar Mahadevan, Lata Mangeshkar, Anuradha Paudwal, Hema Sardesai, Udit Narayan, Sonu Nigam, Kavita Krishnamurthy etc.

Major Jaidev Rajvansh ( Anil Kapoor ) gets the difficlut task of capturing a terrorist, Abhrush ( Danny Denzongpa ) and he get succeed in this. Jaidev recieves an overhwhelming respect and welcome from his hometwon’s crowdand he becomes a national hero. He is then granted a leave from Army for relaxing for some time. Anjali ( Madhuri Dixit ) is his childhood friend and she is secretly in love with Jai. Anjali is planning to get married with him one day. But during a party, Jai meets with Miss India, Pooja Mallapa ( Namrata Shirodkar ) and instantly falls in love with her.

After spending some time together, Pooja also falls for Jai. Meanwhile, Jai’s parents arranges his marraige with Anjali. But Anjali’s dreams get shattered when Jai tells her that he actually loves Pooja and consider Anjai just as his best friend. Anjali is heartbroken but seeking revenge on Jai. She is determined to marry Jai anyhow. Anjali is used by some terrorist to steal some important documents from Jai’s home in return of which they will bring back Jai to her. But this task performed by Anjali leads to Jai’s dismissal from Army and he is declared as a ‘traitor’.
