Qayamat was an action film that was released on October 28, 1983. The movie was directed by Raj N Sippy and produced by Salim Akhtar. The major roles in the movie were played by Dharmendra, Jaya Prada, Smita Patil and Shatrughan Sinha while the roles of Shakti Kapoor and Poonam Dhillon were equally important. The music of the film was directed by R D Burman while the songs were sung by Asha Bhosle, Amit Kumar, Kishore Kumar and Lata Mangeshkar.

Qayamat was an action film that revolved mostly around two guys Shyam and Kamal who are two school going children but very close to each other. The two were the best friends of each other that when one day Kamal ( Shatrughan Sinha ) was unable to pay his school fees, Shyam ( Dharmendra ) assisted him. As a result of this, Kamal was able to study well and make it big in his career. Kamal becomes an IPS Officer, and is subsequently hired as the Superintendent of Police in Delhi.

On the other hand, Shyam relocated and started living in Bombay. The movie takes a turn when Shyam decided to take crime as his career and now was a renouned criminal named as Rajeshwar. He was in love with a girl named Geeta ( Jayapradha ) but the twist in the story comes when she was killed by a politician S.M. Dayal ( Gurbachchan Singh ). This made him very angry and thus killed him. Now Kamal was required to arrest his best friend Shyam but he has to decide between his duty and friend.
