Bollywood romantic family drama, Raja Rani, directed by Sachin Bhowmick was released on january 15, 1973. The movie starred Rajesh Khanna and Sharmila Tagore in lead roles while Iftekhar, David Abraham, Kumari Naaz, Asit Sen, Raj Mehra, Dulari, Brahm Bhardwaj and Manmohan also played important characters in the film. The hit evergreen music of the movie was directed by well knwon music director Rahul Dev Burman while the songs were rendered by Kishore Kumar, Mukesh, Lata Mangeshkar, Asha Bhonlse etc.

Raja ( Rajesh Khanna ) is a petty theif who robs at people houses in the dark night. One such night he is on a run from police. In order to escape from police, he decides to disguise of a groom. He get married to a woman named Nirmala ( Sharmila Tagore ), while posing for the groom. However he manage to fool police and after thier exit from the marraige, he also flees from there leaving behind his newly wedded wife, Nirmala. After few months, he once again come across Nirmala while attending courtesan Ranibai, but he is unknown to the fact that Nirmala is the women with whom he got married that night.

Raja comes to her rescue at Ranibai’s courtesan and they both falls in love with each other. Raja and Rani decides to give up their respective careers and get married to each other. Still both of them are unknown to the fact that they were got married on the night when Raja pretended to be the groom in order to save his life from police. Somehow, Ranibai manage to learn that Raja is the one who is responsible for Rani’s entry in courtesan.
