The movie Ramchand Pakistani is currently under production and is going to release on October 3, 2008 under the banner of Percept Picture Company. The movie is an Urdu film and comes under the genre of thriller. The movie is being directed by Mehreen Jabbar and includes the lead artists as Nandita Das, Noman Ijaz, Rashid Farooqui, Syed Fazal Hussain, Maria Wasti and Navaid Jabbar.

The movie Ramchand Pakistani is being directed by a Pakistani lady Mehreen Jabbar who is debuting as a director with this film. Mehreen Jabbar had also won several awards for directing many award winning television plays in Pakistan before she decided to step in the world of movies. Even before its release, the movie was selected for the narrative section of the Tribeca Film Festival 2008, New York. Though the movie belongs to the Pakistani director but it casts Indian actress Nandita Das along with the Pakistani actors.

The story of the movie is based on the true story of a Pakistani Hindu family that accidentally crossed the Pakistan-Indian border during a period of extreme, war-like situation between the two countries. What added to their problems was that the family belonged to the caste of “Untouchables” and their mistake had several adverse effects on the lives of a woman, a man, and their son. The movie also portrays the situation when a small 8 year old kid is left alone when his parents were held prisoner. The movie successfully displays the dismal situation of a family which is distinguished on the basis of its caste.
