Bollywood musical-romantic-action thriller, Refugee, directed by J. P. Dutta was released on June 30, 2000. The movie starred Abhishek Bachchan and Kareena Kapoor in lead roles while Suneil Shetty, Jackie Shroff, Sudesh Berry, Anupam Kher, Mukesh Rishi and Reena Roy also played important characters in the movie. The melodious music of the film was given by the duo Anu Malik and Aadesh Srivastava while the songs were rendered by Sonu Nigam, Shankar Mahadevan, Alka Yagnik, Sadhana Sargam and Udit Narayan. The movie was the debut film of both Abhishek and Kareena. However, the movie proved out to be a huge box office failure.

Refugee ( Abhishek Bachchan ) helps people to cross the border in return of money. His gaurdian, Jaan Mohammed ( Anupam Kher ), loves him more than his real son. Refugee is asked by his father to trek a family to Atta Mohammed’s house in pakistan. But during his journey, Refugee falls in love with the beautiful girl named Nazneen ( Kareena Kapoor ) of that family. Refugee becomes emotionally attach to her family and despite of several difficulties manages to trek them to Atta Mohammed’s house in Pakistan.

Army on both sides of the border are aware of the refugee traffic and also searching clues for it. BSF officer Raghuveer Singh ( Jackie Shroff ) questions Jaan Mohammed and Refugee about this but they refuse to have any information about it. Refugee gets the offer of trekking four men to border and he do so. But later he finds out that the four men are actually terrorists. Refugee is arrested by army. On the otherhand, in Pakistan Ranger Mohammed Ashraf ( Suneil Shetty ) gives the marraige proposal to Nazneen to which she refuses. However, her family forces her to marry him. Now is this the end of this love story?
