The social movie Rishtey was released on December 6, 2002 under the banner of Maruti International. The movie was directed by Indra Kumar and produced by Ashok Thakeria. The significant roles were played by Anil Kapoor, Shilpa Shetty, Karisma Kapoor and Amrish Puri while the supporting roles were played by Deepshikha and Tiku Talsania. Music of the film was directed by Sanjeev and Darshan while the songs were sung by Neha, Mahalaxmi, Asha Bhosle, Anuradha Paudwal and Shaan.

The movie Rishtey directed by Indra Kumar is a different film that revolves around a couple that was once happy but now is divided due to misunderstandings created by girl’s scheming father. The theme of the movie is about a father who was required to kidnap his own son due to the circumstances, so that he can live a peaceful life with his son at some other location. The movie revolves around Sooraj ( Anil Kapoor ) who loves his son Karan ( Master Jibraan Khan ) very much and is an inspiration to him.

Karan was in impression that his mother Komal ( Karisma Kapoor ) is dead but Sooraj didn’t let him know the truth that he has separated from her many years back so that they can live in harmony. Sooraj tried all his efforts so that he can become his father as well as mother but motherly love inside Karan that he lacked was haunting him. Some excitement to their lives was added by a fisherwoman Vaijanthi ( Shilpa Shetty ). Attracted towards Sooraj, Vaijanthi tries her best to get Sooraj’s attention but all in vain.
