Bollywood movie, Saagar, directed by Ramesh Sippy was released in the year 1985. The movie starred Rishi Kapoor and Dimple Kapadia in lead roles while Kamal Hassan played the supporting role in the film. The superhit music of the film was given by R.D. Burman and the songs were sung by Kishore Kumar, Lata Mangeshkar, Asha Bhonsle, S.P. Balasubrahmaniam etc. This was the second film of Rishi and Dimple together after the super success of their debut film titled Bobby. The movie did well at the box office and also remained in controversy for some time because of a very hot steamy scene of Dimple in the film.

The movie starts with Mona ( Dimple Kapadia ), who is a young and beautiful daughter of a tavern owner. Raja ( Kamal Hassan ) is is her childhood friend who always dreams of marrying Mona. However, Moan is totally unknown to his inner feelings for her. She just takes him as her best friend. Mona meets with a rich guy named Ravi ( Rishi Kapoor ), who falls in love with her at first sight. He proposes to Mona to which she readily agrees. Ravi is a grand son of Kamla Devi.

When Ravi’s grandma comes to know about their affair, she becomes very furious over Ravi. Raja’s dream also get shattered when Mona tells him about her love for Ravi. Kamal Devi plays a game and puts pressure on Mona to marry someone else. She also warns her that if she will not do what she is saying then her village will have to pay a big price for it. Mona in order to save her village from Kamla Devi’s bad intentions agrees to get married with Raja. What happens next is the same old masala film story.
