Bollywood family drama, Saajan Bina Suhagan, directed by Saawan Kumar and written by Kamleshwar was released in the year 1978. The movie starred Rajendra Kumar and Padmini Kolhapure in lead roles while Nutan, Vinod Mehra, Shreeram Lagoo, Gajanan Jagirdar, Chandrashekhar, Kasturi Bartake, Pichoo Kapoor, Leela Mishra, Satyendra Kapoor and Aarti Chopra also played important characters in the film. The melodioud hit music of the film was given by the music director Usha Khanna while the songs were rendered by Mohammed Rafi, Suresh Wadkar, Asha Bhonsle, Suman Kalyanpur, Anurahda Paudwal, Dilraj Kaur and K. J. Yesudas.

Raj ( Rajendra Kumar ) and Asha ( Nutan Behl ) are in lov with each other. Raj is planning to become a doctor and for this decides to travel abroad for higher studies. He made promise to Asha that he will return soon after completing his studies. Asha, who is living a poor lifestyle with her father, decides to wait for him. Her father on his deathbed ask her to marry Gopal Chopra as he wants her to get settled with someone before his death. Asha agrees and the marraige take place. Asha gives birth to three childs and starts living happily. Her elder daughter, Basanti ( Kasturi Bartake ) is a tomboy, second daughter, Barkha ( Aarti Chopra ) wants to be a famous dancer and the third daughter, Bulbul ( Padmini Kolhapure ) is passionate towrads piano playing.

Asha learns that Bulbul has a hole in her heart. Gopal usually live in Bombay because of his job. Asha becomes shocked to see Raj coming to live in their neighbourhood. Bur Raj has no bad intentions for her. Raj goes to meet her and makes a special bonding with Bulbul. He also agrees to teach her the piano lessons. Raj’s younger brother, Anand ( Vinod Mehra ), who is an advocate by profession falls in love with Basanti. But then enters a man anmed Mangatram ( T. P. Jain ), who blacmails Asha for her love secret.
