Vinod Mehra and Moushami Chatterjee starrer comedy flick, Sabse Bada Rupaiya, was released on March 31, 1976. The movie was directed by S. Ramanathan and written by Abrar Alvi. The other starcast of the movie includes Keshto Mukherjee, Sulochana Latkar, Mehmood, Chadrashekhar, Sunder, Asit Sen, Farida Jalal, Madhu in important characters. The melodious evergreen music of the movie was composed by the music directors Manohari Singh and Basu Deo Chakraborthy in collaboration while the songs were crooned by Kishore Kumar, Lata Mangeshkar, Usha Mangeshkar etc.

Kind hearted Amit Rai ( Vinod Mehra ), is a multi millionaire and is living a wealthy lifestyle in his palatial house. He is always ready to help others and lend a helping hand to everyone including his business associates. However, his employee as well as best friend, Nekiram ( Mehmood ) warns him but all his efforts are in vain. Destiny strikes and Amit faces a heavy loss in his business. All his wealth goes in clearing his debts. Situation becomes even more critical for him when his palatial house is to be auctioned.

He seeks help from the persons he had helped but no one comes forward to help him. Even his girlfriend, Sunita ( Moushami Chatterjee ), starts keeping a distance from him. leaving behind with no other option, Amit relocates near a seashore community. He starts working as a fisherman. But he get shocked to learn that his loss in business was not sudden but was actually well planned by soemone. Now he decides to avenge all the humiliation he faced because of being penniless.
