Bollywood romantic thriller, Sainik, directed by Sikander Bhatt and written by Madan Joshi was released on September 10, 1993. The movie starred Akshay Kumar and Ashwini Bhave in lead roles while Alok Nath, Anupam Kher, Ronit Roy, Ranjeet, Farheen, Harish Patel, Navneet Nishan, Pankaj Berry, Laxmikant Berde and Satish Shah also played important roles in the film. The superhit music of the film was composed by the hit music director duo Nadeem-Shravan while the songs were rendered by Kumar Sanu, Vinod Rathod, Alka Yagnik, Sadhana Sargam and Asha Bhonsle.

Suraj Dutt ( Akshay Kumar ) is a Lieutenant in Indian Army. He gets a long leave to meets his family which comprises of his father, Retired Colonel Yashpal Dutt ( Anupam Kher ) and sister, Minni ( Farheen ). On the way to his home, he rescues some school childrens from gangsters. He becomes a hero among the masses. After meeting his father at home, he leaves to her sister’s hostel to meet her. There he meets with Minni’s roommate named Alka ( Ashwini Bhave ), who is in love with him since she saw his pic in the newspaper. Suraj too falls for her and soon they both get married with each other.

Suraj goes to rejoin his duty and leaves his pregnant wife at home alongwith his father. His father gets the news that Suraj is missing after a fight with a terrorist. His father tries to keep this news a secret from Alka and Minni. But Alka and Minni also get to know this news and decides to keep this a secret from Yashpal Dutt. All of them tries to behave like Suraj is still alive and is on his duty.
