Bollywood movie, Sardari Begum, directed by Shyam Benegal and written by Khalid Mohammed was released in the year 1996. The movie starred Rajit Kapoor and Kiron Kher in lead roles while Rajeshwari Sachdeva, Amrish Puri, Kumud Mishra, S. M. Zaheer, Shri Vallabh Vyas, Uttara Baokar and Ahmed Khan also played important roles in the film. The hit melodious music of the movie was directed by the music director Varaj Bhatia while the songs were rendered by Aarti Ankalikar, Poorva Joshi, Shubha Joshi etc.

The movie starts with a murder that has been performed by someone in a very brutal way. Police arrives there and get shcoked to see the condition of the dead body. police starts investigating about the dead body and soon reveals that the dead body is of a women who is famous with the name of ‘Sardari Begum’ in the community. Sardari Begum was a popular singer and courtesan in her time. Police Inspector ( Ravi Jhankal ) is assigned this case and he starts his ivestigation. His investigation takes him to the past of Sardari Begum and he get shocked to learn the story of her life.
