Bollywood blockbuster movie, Sarfarosh, written and directed by John Matthew Matthan was released in the year 1999. The movie starred bollywood stars Aamir Khan and Sonali Bendre in lead roles while Naseeruddin Shah, Mukesh Rishi, Makrand Deshpande and Govind Namdev also played important roles in the movie. The superhit music of the film was composed by the famous duo Jatin-Lalit while the songs were sung by Sonu Nigam, Jagjit Singh, Kumar Sanu, Alka Yagnik etc. The movie did well at the box office.

The movie starts with Ajay Singh Rathod ( Aamir Khan ), who had a tragic incident in past when he loses his elder brother to a terrorist attack. His father was also badly beaten up by the terrorists outside his house and that results in a paralysis attack. Ajay then devotes himself to become an IPS ( Indian Police Service ) officer. He joins police force as an ACP ( Assistant Commissioner of Police ). One day he attends a concert of Pakistani singer Gulfam Hussan ( Naseeruddin Shah ). He friends him by handing over a very rare recorded collection of Gulfam’s initial recitals in past. He also meets his college love, Seema ( Sonali Bendre ), there.

Ajay puts together a special team including a honest muslim officer Salim ( Mukesh Rishi ). Ajay get seriously injured at an encounter with criminals. But his investigation gives him a clue that signifies Thar desert in the Indian state of Rajasthan. They comes to know about the illegal transportation of arms and ammunition from Pakistan across the international border into Rajasthan, India. They traps “Mirchi Seth” Rambandhu Gupt ( Akhilendra Mishra ) in Bahid. There Ajay once again meets Gulfam who is there to see his ancestral haveli near Bahid. But Ajay becomes shocked when he comes to know that Gulfam is the mastermind of the illegal intrusion of arms into India.
