Bollywood family comedy drama, Sasural, directed by T. Prakash Rao and written by Inder Raj Anand was released in the year 1961. The movie starred Rajendra Kumar and Saroja devi in lead roles while Jayshree Gadkar, Anwar Hussain, Dhumal, Mehmood, Lalita Pawar, Bipin Gupta, Shubha Khote and Leela Mishra also played important roles in the film. The melodious music of the movie was composed by none other than well knwon music director duo Shankar-Jaikishen while the songs were rendered by Mohammed Rafi, Mukesh, Lata mangeshkar etc.

The movie starts with a guy named Shekhar ( Rajendra kumar ), who lives a poor lifestyle alongwith his uncle, Dharamdas ( Dhumal ), his wife and a cousin. The younger daughter of Dharadas, Gauri had eloped with her lover and everyone believes that she is dead now. Shekhar is studying in a college and is in love with a beautiful girl named Bela ( Saroja Devi ), who also studies in the same college. Bela’s father arrange the marraige of Bela and Shekhar but also proposes a condition that Shekhar will move in with his family after the marraige. Shekhar agrees to do so.

But Bela;s mother is not happy with this marraige as she always wanted Bela to get married with Rajan ( Anwar Hussain ). Shekhar and Bela get married to each other and Shekhar moves in to live with her family. But problem arises when Bela suspects Shekhar for having an affair with a girl. To make the situation even worse, Shekhar’s father-in-law also dies in an accident. Now Bela’s mother is determined to remove Shekhar from her daughter’s life anyhow.
