Bollywood musical romantic flick, Sawan Ki Ghata, directed by Shakti Samanta and written by Gulshan Nanda was released on May 22, 1976. The movie starred Manoj Kumar and Sharmila Tagore in lead roles while Madan Puri, Mumtaz, Mohan Choti, S. N. Banerjee, Pran, Jeevan, Padma Khanna and Sunder also played significant characters in the film. The hit evergreen music of the movie was directed by the well knwon veteran music director O. P. Nayyar while the songs were rendered by Mohammed Rafi, Usha Mangeshkar, Mahendra Kapoor, Asha Bhonsle etc.

Gopal ( Manoj Kumar ) returns to his home town after completing his studies. He meets with his childhood friend, Seema ( Sharmila Tagore ) and soon their friendship changes into love. Gopal and Seema’s love affair is not liked by Seema’s wealthy father, Rana Shamsher ( Jeevan ). He wants to seperate Gopal and Seema at any cost. Gopal then get shocked with the absence of Bansilal ( Sajjan ), whom he believes to be his father. He is told that Bansilal is dead. But a village girl named Saloni ( Mumtaz ), who is secrtely in love with him, tells him that she has seen Bansilal’s ghost.

Gopal first refuse to believ her but when she contiously tell him that she has really seen Bansilal’s ghost, he decides to investigate about this. In the process he also reveals about the property which his father had left for him but his stepmother and his uncle, Kailash ( Pran ) does not want him to inherit it. What he will do now?
