The action movie Shahenshah was released on February 12, 1988. The movie was directed by Prabhat Kumar and Tinu Anand while it was produced by Naresh Malhotra and Tinu Bittu Anand. The major roles in the movie were enacted by Amitabh Bachchan, Amrish Puri, Meenakshi Seshadri and Prem Chopra while the presence of Jagdeep, Kader Khan and Aruna Irani supported the film. The music of the film was directed by Amar Utpal while the songs were sung by Kishore Kumar, Lata Mangeshkar, Mohammad Aziz and Asha Bhosle.

Shahenshah was a hit action movie of its time and was liked by many viewers at that time. The movie starts with the corrupt bank manager Mathur ( Prem Chopra ) and crime baron JK ( Amrish Puri ). While Mathur was in deep trouble, JK manages to get a bank robbed to bail him out. The true and faithful Inspector Shrivastav ( Kader Khan ) gets the hint of this robbery and was about to burst the criminals but JK arranges a dancer Julie ( Aruna Irani ) to charge him as a corrupt officer.

Inspector Shrivastav was unable to bear the false charges against him and thus hangs himself in his home after being released on the bail. He has a son Vijay ( Amitabh Bachchan ) who gets a long lasting impression on him due to his father’s death. He grows up in the presence of Inspector Aslam Khan ( Pran ) and becomes a police officer himself. While Aslam Khan is a faithful inspector, Vijay was coward and liked to take the bribes.
