The social movie Shakti - The Power was released on September 20, 2002 under the banner of Sridevi Productions. The movie was directed by Krishna Vamsi and produced by Boney Kapoor and Sridevi. The actors in the key roles were Nana Patekar, Sanjay Kapoor, Karisma Kapoor and Shahrukh Khan while the presence of Aishwarya Rai and Vijay Raaz supported the film. Music of the film was directed by Ismail Darbar and the songs were sung by Kavita Krishnamurthy, Anuradha Paudwal, Prakash, Adnan Sami and Sukhwinder Singh.

Shakti - The Power was one of the most awaited films of the year and was inspired from the Hollywood movie “Not Without My Daughter”. The movie was directed by Krishna Vamsi who directed the Telugu hit film Anthapuram. The movie is about Nandini ( Karisma Kapoor ) who lives with her two uncles in Canada. They also love her and treat her as their princess. They also wish to see her as a bride soon. Nandini comes across Shekhar ( Sanjay Kapoor ) and marries him. Two have a adorable son Raja.

Shekhar, one day, informs Nandini that they had to go to India to see his ill mother. They reach India and Nandini was exhausted by the long and tiring journey. The bus in which they were travelling was attacked by a gang and Shekhar was beaten black and blue in it. They, then, goes to Shekhar’s father Narsimha’s ( Nana Patekar ) haveli. Nandini was given a warm welcome by her mother-in-law ( Deepti Naval ). One day, Nandini sees Narsimha teaching her little son to throw a bomb, this made her go crazy.
