Shapath was an action movie released on January 01, 1984. Ravikant Nagaich directed as well as produced the movie. The lead roles in the movie were played by Raj Babbar, Smita Patil and Ranjeet while Shakti Kapoor, Kader Khan, Leena Das and Urmila Bhatt played the supporting roles. Asha Bhosle and Alka Yagnik sang the songs for the movie and Bappi Lahiri gave the music.

Vijay ( Raj Babbar ) is an honest and diligent police inspector. He impresses the Commissioner of Police ( Satyendra Kapoor ) with his work, who transfers him to a different town named ShonaPur. The town was known for its ungovernable customs. Vijay accepts the proposal and departs for ShonaPur in disguise. He faces the apathetic circumstances in the town such as careless behavior of the police officers who never arrest anyone.

He is also acquainted with a young girl named Shanti ( Smita Patil ) .Shanti reveals that she is in search of some buried treasure .Vijay promises to help the girl. Vijay and Shanti fall in love with each other. Both of them begin to locate the treasure. They go through underground caves, snake pits and a mob of thieves who were known to kill anyone who get in their way.
