Bollywood family drama, Shikast, directed by Ramesh Saigal and written by Wajahat Mirza was released in the year 1953. The movie starred Dilip Kumar and Nalini Jaywant in lead roles while Master Kapoor, Om Prakash, Durga Khote, Baby Lakshmi, Leela Mishra, Shyamlal and K. N. Singh also played important characters in the film. The hit melodious music of the movie was directed by the well known veteran music director duo Shankar Jaikishen while the songs were crooned by Talat Mahmood, Lata Mangeshkar etc.

The movie starts with a guy named Ram Singh ( Dilip Kumar ), who is a doctor by profession. He returns to his village after the gap of seven years. He has returned to village in order to sell his land as he wants to stay in city always. After spending few days in the village, he learns that villagers are being harrassed by local landlord. He also meets with his childhood love, Sushma ( Nalini Jaywant ), who is the widowed sister of local landlord. He then decides to open a school and hospital in the village on his land.

Ram rescues Sushma’s son from a certain death. Sushma once again feels attracted towards Ram and in order to prevent him from leaving the village, she becomes more cruel to the villagers. Sushma’s brother than plans against Ram and make villagers stands agianst him. Now villagers are determined to kill Ram and no one can save Ram from them.
