Bollywood movie, Sitam, directed by Vikas Desai and Aruna Raje was released in the year 1982. The movie starred Naseeruddin Shah and Smita Patil in lead roles while Vikas Desai, Sulabha Deshpande, Keith Stevenson, Vikram, Arun Samaik, Asrani and Seema deo also played significant characters in the film. The melodious music of the movie was directed by the well known ghazal singer, Jagjit Singh while the songs were rendered by Mohammed Rafi, Jagjit Singh etc.

The movie starts with a guy named Inder ( Vikram ), who is a mental patient and is in Dr. Gindes Hospital. He has this mental problem since his childhood after an traumatic incident happend to him. Inder meets with a young women named Meenakshi ( Smita Patil ) and gets attracted towards her. He also starts recovering from his mental state. But Meenakshi is in delima now that whether she should accept thsi mental as her lover or she should leave the hospital immediately.

She tries to leave the hospital but agrees to stay there when doctor tells her that her exit from the hospital will do negative effect on Inder’s mental problem. But the problem is that Meenakshi could not get along well with Inder as she is committed to someone else and soon she is going to marry that guy. What to happen next?
