Bollywood blockbuster hit, Soldier, directed by famous duo Abbas-Mustan was released on November 20, 1998. The movie starred Bobby Deol and Preity Zinta in lead roles while Rakhee, Ashish Vidhyarti, Farida Jalal, Suresh Oberoi and Dalip Tahil were also seen in important roles too. The movie was distributed under the banner of Tips Music Films. The superhit music of the film was given by Anu Malik and the songs were sung by Kumar Sanu, Sonu Nigam, Alka Yagnik, Jaspinder Narula etc. The movie went on to do well at the box office. Preity Zinta won the Filmfare Best Female Debut Award for her act in the film.

The movie starts with Geeta Malhotra ( Rakhee ), who is a widow of Captain Vijay Malhotra. Vijay Malhotra was shot to death by D.K. and three army officials when he tries to stop them to sell illicit ammunation to gangsters. In the enquiry, it is revealed that Vijay was guilty of this offence. The local villagers refused to permit Geeta and her young son, Raju, from even cremating the body of Vijay Malhotra. Shanti ( Farida Jalal ) adopts Raju as she knows that her husband Virender Sinha ( Dalip Tahil ) is also responsible for the death of Vijay Malhotra.

After several years, Vijay’s friend ( Ashish Vidyarthi ) hires a guy named Vicky to seek revenge from the people that were involved in Vijay’s murder. Vicky meets Preeti Singh ( Preity Zinta ), who is a daughter of Pratap Singh ( Suresh Oberoi ), another convict of Vijay’s murder. Vicky falls in love with Preeti but still his prime job is to kill all the persons involved in Vijay Malhotra’s murder. However, later it is revelaed that Vicky is actually Raju, son of Vijay Malhotra.
