Taaqatwar was an action film released on June 16, 1989. The movie was directed by David Dhawan and produced by Bobby Raaj. The major roles in the movie were played by Sanjay Dutt, Anita Raaj, Govinda and Neelam Kothari while Anupam Kher, Gulshan Grover, Paresh Rawal, Shakti Kapoor, Tanuja and Anil Dhawan were also there in the film. The music of the film was directed by Anu Malik while the songs were sung by Amit Kumar and Alisha Chinoy. The lyrics were given by Sameer and Indeevar.

The movie Taaqatwar was an action flick full of action and adventure. The tale of the movie revolves around a man named Peter D’Mello ( Anil Dhawan ) who is presently arrested by the police in charge of killing a municipal officer named Sharma ( Anupam Kher ) brutally. Peter was taken to the court for his trial where he was found guilty and thus was ordered to be hanged. Peter has a son John ( Govinda ) who would be left behind alone.

The twist in the story comes when one day, Mrs. Sharma ( Tanuja ), wife of murdered Officer Sharma, finds that Peter has not killed her husband but was wrongly sentenced. She then decides to adopt John and started bringing him up with her own younger son. She also finds out that Munjal Khurana ( Shakti Kapoor ), a powerful and influential builder was the one behind her husband’s death, but is afraid of reporting this to the police. Years later John turns out to be a criminal while Sharma’s son an inspector ( Sanjay Dutt ).
