The Hero was an action thriller movie released on April 11, 2003 under the banner of Time Magnetics (India) Pvt Ltd. The movie was directed by Anil Gadar Sharma and produced by Dhirajlal Shah. The significant roles in the movie were played by Sunny Deol, Priyanka Chopra, Preity Zinta and Amrish Puri while Kabir Bedi and Rajpal Yadav were also there in the film. Music of the film was directed by Uttam Singh and the songs were sung by Jaspinder Narula, Hariharan, Sunidhi Chauhan, Udit Narayan and Amrish Puri.

The movie “The Hero” mostly revolves around the life of a millitiary officer and starts when Arun Khanna ( Sunny Deol ) who is an army intelligence officer is chosen to be the Major Ravi Khanna by the Indian Secret Service Agency - RAW at the Kashmir border. Major Khanna sets up his spy network in a small village Kupwada in Kashmir in hopes of receiving information regarding terrorist activities across the border. A local girl Reshma ( Preity Zinta ) decides to be the part of his network.

Reshma decided to help him as she suffered the loss of her parents during a terrorists attack on her village. The Hindu girl was then brought up by her Muslim neighbor Yusuf Khan and his wife like their own daughter. Major Khanna trains her for spying and due to their several meetings Reshma falls in love with him. Major Khanna was also attracted by her innocence but it was required to send her across border to Pakistan as a maidservant in Colonel Hidayatulla’s ( Deep Dhillon ) house.
