The production of the social movie The Last Lear has been completed and is ready to release on September 12, 2008 under the banner of Planman Motion Pictures. The movie has been directed by Rituparno Ghosh and produced by Arindam Chaudhuri and Shubho Shekhar Bhattacharjee. The lead roles in the movie are enacted by Amitabh Bachchan, Arjun Rampal and Preity Zinta while significant roles were also played by Shefali Chhaya and Divya Dutta.

The movie “The Last Lear” is completely based on Utpal Dutt’s play “Aajker Shahjahan”. The film was made in English but now is dubbed in Hindi to be released in India. The lead star Amitabh Bachchan can be seen performing a Shakespearean role in the film and it is the first film that explores the influences of the Shakespeare on other actors’ lives. Though this concept is new to Hindi cinema but has been tried many times in Hollywood. The story of the movie revolves mostly around Harry ( Amitabh Bachchan ) who is a 65 year old, passionate Shakespearean stage actor.

Harry comes across Siddhartha ( Arjun Rampal ) who is a new age film director and a visionary person with a vision to see the unknown. Siddhartha knows how to get his wishes fulfilled and is quite a different person than Harry. Siddhartha offers Harry a role in his upcoming film. Harry accepts the offer hesitatingly and finds that this is much different from what he had been doing for quite a long time now. He meets an actress Shabnam ( Preity Zinta ) who is facing a difficult personal life. Harry helps her recover from all her problems. Harry soon realizes that he had become a joker performing everything what was told to him by Siddhartha.
