Bollywood action thriller, Toofan, directed by Ketan Desai and written by Salim Khan was released on August 11, 1989. The movie starred Amitabh Bachchan and Amrita Singh in lead roles while Meenakshi Sheshadri, Farooq Sheikh, Kamal Kapoor, Goga Kapoor, Jagdish Raj, Bob Christo, Raza Murad, Sushma Seth, Pran, Zarina Wahab and Mahesh Anand also played important characters in the film. The music of the film was composed by The well known muisc director Anu Malik while the songs were crooned by Kishore Kumar, Amit Kumar Ganguly, Suresh Wadkar, Alka Yagnik, Shabbir Kumar and Lata Mangeshkar.

The movie starts with two twin brothers, Toofan and Shyam ( Amitabh Bachchan ), who get seperated in their childhood. Shyam is a magician by profession and lives alongwith his mother. Toofan is a threat for the criminals and is a local superhero of a village. Shyam has a friend named Gopal Sharma ( Farooq Sheikh ), who is an auto-rikshaw driver by profession. Shyam is framed in a robbery by a ciminal named Vikram Issa ( Raza Murad ). Shyam is arrested by police but he manage to prove himself innocent in front of police. Now Shyam decides to apprehend Vikram but in return creates problems for himself only.

Gopal comes to his rescue but unfortunately meets with an accident. Gopal loses hisboth arms and becomes physically handicapped. Gopal returns to his home to lead the rest of his life with his wife and son. But a bandit named Zalim Singh ( Goga Kapoor ) kills him brutally alongwith his wife. When Shyam learns anout this, he decids to go to the village but get shocked when he is mistaken for Toofan, who has been missing for a long time and no body knows where he is right now. How Shyam will manage to create the same threat which Toofan had on criminals?
