Bollywood hit movie, Trishul, directed by Yash Chopra was released on 4 May 1978. The movie starred Amitabh Bachchan, Shashi Kapoor and Hema Malini in lead roles while Sanjeev Kumar, Rakhee Gulzar, Sachin, Poonam Dhillon and Prem Chopra also played important roles in the movie. The evergreen hit music of the film was given by Khayyam sahab and the songs were sung by Kishore Kumar, Manna Dey, Lata Mangeshkar and Yesudas. The lyrics were written by Sahir Ludhianvi. The movie was well recived by the audience and became an instant hit of that year.

The movie starts with a woman, Shanti ( Waheeda Rehman ), who is cheated by a person named Raj Kumar Gupta ( Sanjeev Kumar ). Raj left her pregnant and marry a rich girl. Shanti wants to take revenge from raj and therefore brings her son, Vijay ( Amitabh Bachchan ), in difficult circumstances. Vijay becomes a full grown up man and on the other hand Shanti dies because of a severe disease. Vijay now walks to the city to atke revenge of his mother’s death from his so called father.

He meets with Raj, who is not known to the fact that Vijay is his own son. Vijay get into the business field to compete with his father, Raj. He starts destroying his father’s business and family connections. Shekar Gupta ( Shashi Kapoor ) is the second son of Raj. Vijay also tries to marry the girl, Sheetal Verma ( Hema Malini ), with whom Shekar is in love. Vijay meets with Geeta ( Rakhee ), with whom he later falls in love. Vijay also takes help of Balwant Rai ( Prem Chopra ) in destroying Raj’s family’s peace.
