Bolllywood comic action thriller, Tu Chor Main Sipahi, directed by Guddu Dhanoa and written by Robin Henry was released on May 10, 1996. The movie starred Akshay Kumar, Saif Ali Khan and Tabu in lead roles while Pratibha Sinha, Anupam Kher, Amrish Puri, Deven Verma, Usha Nadkani, Anjana Mumtaz, Narendra Gupta, Master Kirti and Harish Patel also played significant characters in the film. The melodious hit music of the film was composed by the trio Sameer Sen, Dilip sen and Babloo Chakraborthy while the songs were rendered by Kumar Sanu, Alisha Chinoi, Alka Yagnik, Poornima and Kavita Krishnamurthy.

The movie starts with honest and brave police officer, Amar Verma ( Akshay Kumar ), who is a threat to the criminals. Raja aka King ( Saif Ali Khan ) is a famous theif who has just entered in the region of Amar. Amar decides to arrest him but fails. Nobody knows the real identity of King and this thing helps Raja everytime in his robberies. Amar is in love with a beautiful girl named Kajal ( Tabu ), who is the daughter of none other than Police commissioner Kushal Singh ( Anupam Kher ). King performs robbery in the house of chief minister and Kushal Singh sends Amar for finding King at any cost.

Amar manage to arrest King but while returning to the police station he has an encounter with some criminals. Amar is badly injured in the fight and King escapes from there. King enters in village and pretends to be a police inspector. He learns that Thakur Gajendra Singh ( Amrish Puri ) runs a criminal empire in the village. King also revelas that Amar is alive but has lost his memory. He get shocked to see Amar behaving like a kid. King falls in love with the village gir, Rani ( Pratibha Sinha ).
