Umar was a social movie released on March 17, 2006 under the banner of Sujata Films. The movie was directed by Karan Razdan and produced by P D Gupta. The important roles in the movie were enacted by Jimmy Shergill, Kader Khan, Shenaz Treasurywala and Prem Chopra while the roles of Satish Kaushik and Shakti Kapoor were also significant. The music of the film was directed by Shamir Tandon and the songs were sung by Jagjit Singh, Sunidhi Chauhan, Hariharan, Babul Supriyo and Manna Dey.

Umar is based on a noble theme and revolves around three aging Indians in London. Umar means age in Hindi and thus displays the attitude of people that behaves in a strange manner to the elderly people. There are youths who behave with respect and love with the elder people and also who behave in some strange manner. Shashank ( Jimmy Shergill ) respects and cares three senior citizens Iqbal Khan ( Kader Khan ), Chanderkant Mehta ( Prem Chopra ) and Rajpal Singh ( Satish Kaushik ) living in London. They all had their different problems as they were treated in a bad manner at home.

All three elder citizens were facing the worst time of their lifetime but always finds comfort in either each other’s company or with Shashank. But Shashank too had problems and was related to his love Sapna ( Shenaz Treasurywala ). She is a innocent and cute girl but her father Prem Lakha ( Shakti Kapoor ), a rich businessman, was against their love. Shashank’s problems grew when he became the prime suspect in a murder of a British girl. He was imprisoned but with the help of his elder friends he managed to escape when he was being taken to the prison.
