Songs of Upkar
Yesteryear hit movie, Upkar, written and directed by Manoj Kumar was released in the year 1967. The movie starred Manoj Kumar and beautiful Asha Parekh in lead roles while Prem Chopra and Pran also played important characters in the film. The evergreen superhit music of the film was given by the famous duo Kalyanji Anandji and the songs were sung by Mukesh, Manna Dey, Mahendra Kapoor, Lata Mangeshkar and Mohammed Rafi. The movie was well recieved by the audiences and went on to become a huge hit at that time. The movie also went on to win several Filmfare Awards under different category.
The movie starts with a widow Radha who is living alongwith hwe two sons, Bharat ( Manoj Kumar ) and Puran Kumar ( Prem Chopra ). To fullfil his mother wish, Bharat sacrifice his career so that Puran can get eductaed. He sacrifices everything to get Puran educated. He also sends him aborad to get better education. The family is very pleased, when Purans returns from abroad, hoping that he will ensure that they all live happily now. But Puran is a totally changed person now. He comes back as a selfish man wanting his share of the property.
Puran has also changed his name to Kumar. He wants to get his share of property so that he can lead a much better life. Puran meets with Kavita ( Asha Parekh ) in the village, who is a doctor promoting planned parenthood. Puran first met with Kavita in the abroad and instantly fall in love with her. But now he sees that Kavita is getting closer and closer to his elder brother Bharat. He get jealous by this and plans to spoil Bharat’s life. Lal Dhaniram ( Kanahaiya Lal ) also helps him in this as he also wants to take revenge from Bharat.
