The social movie Utthaan was released on October 13, 2006 under the banners of Kumar Sanu Communication Pvt. Ltd and Sana Creations. The movie was directed by Ujjwal Chatterjee and produced by Kumar Sanu. The actors in the lead roles of the film were Priyanshu Chatterjee, Preeti Puri and Neha Dhupia while there were many special appearances by Saroj Khan, Shravan Kumar and Kumar Sanu. Music of the film had been directed by Kumar Sanu and the songs were sung by Asha Bhosle, Alka Yagnik, Kumar Sanu, Sonu Nigam and Hema Sardesai.

Celebrities in Bollywood are trying their hand on many different things and this fact seems to be true for this film as the famous singer Kumar Sanu decided to turn into a producer with his first film Utthaan. The movie is directed by Ujjwal Chatterjee who has also made the movie ‘Escape from Taliban’. The story of the movie is raises the subject how the youths of today want to achieve fame, money and pride in just no time without knowing the right way. They just don’t care about how they are going to achieve all the glamour. The story of the movie also brings out the corruption in our country and the dirty role of the media.

Prashant Bharati ( Priyanshu Chatterjee ), a media personnel from Mumbai wanted to expose the corrupt politicians and the media. He graduated from Lucknow University and wanted to reach the top of success just like a beautiful model Kiran Talreja ( Neha Dhupia ) whom he met at the Lakme Fashion show. He realized that she was the right person who can take him to the top.
