Vijay was an action romantic movie released on August 12, 1988 under the banner of Yash Raj Films. The movie was directed as well as produced by Yash Chopra. The main roles in the movie were played by Anil Kapoor, Anupam Kher, Meenakshi and Shakti Kapoor while Sonam, Gulshan Grover, Parikshit Sahani, Parijat, Arjun and Rishi Kapoor were also there in the film. The music of the film was directed by Shiv-hari. The cinematography of the movie was done by Manmohan Singh.

Vijay was an action cum romantic movie that mostly revolved around a widowed man named Lala Yodhraj Bhalla ( Anupam Kher ) who lived in a big house with his daughter, Suman Bhardwaj ( Hema Malini ), and son, Shashiraj. Both of his children were of marriageable age and he wanted them to get married but he was shocked to find that his daughter Suman was already in love with a low class employee named Ajit Bhardwaj ( Rajesh Khanna ).

Soon Suman and Ajit got married and then she moved to Ajit’s place where she soon gets pregnant and gives birth to a son who they name Vikram alias Vicky ( Rishi Kapoor ). Yodhraj was in a shock state again when Shashiraj tells him that he would like to marry Rita, who comes from a poor family. Yodhraj asks Shashiraj to trip outside of the town in his private owned plane. When Shashiraj was out of the town, Yodhraj goes to a pregnant Rita and asks her never to see Shashiraj again and leaves a blank cheque with her
