Bollywood action thriller, Vishwanath, directed by the biggest showmen of the bollywood industry, Subhash Ghai, was released on January 20, 1978. The movie starred Shatrughan Sinha and Reena Roy in lead roles while Parikshat Sahni, Prem Nath, Rita Bhaduri, Pran, Madan Puri, Sulochana Latkar, Jagdish raj, Satyendra Kapoor and Lalita Pawar also played significant roles in the film. The melodious hit music of the movie was directed by the very famous music director Rajesh Roshan while the songs were sung by Kishore Kumar, Manna Dey, Lata Mangeshkar and Asha Bhonsle.

Vishwanath ( Shatrughan Sinha ) is a well known honest lawyer who has the record of winning his every case. He refuse to fight a case for the underworld don, GNK ( Prem Nath ) and as a result of this GNK decides to teach a lesson to him. They plans a dirty game and frames Vishwanath in a wrong case. Vishwanath fails to prove himself innocent in front of the court. His plea is ignored by the court and is sentenced to prison for a long time. Vishwanath then decides to take revenge from GNK after completing his prison time.

Vishwanath is released from jail after his prison time completes. He tries to take revenge from GNK with the help of law but completely fails in this. He then decides to change his identity to a criminal. He makes a gang of his own and starts competing with GNK directly. But in the process of taking revenge from GNK, he himself becomes a wanted man by the police.
