The social drama movie Waaris was released on May 6, 1988. The movie was directed and produced by Ravindra Peepat. The lead roles in the movie were enacted by Smita Patil, Amrita Singh, Raj Babbar and Raj Kiran while the presence of Amrish Puri, Kulbhushan Kharbanda, Javed Khan, Sushma Seth and Pradeep Kumar supported the film. The music of the film was directed by Uttam Singh while the songs were sung by Lata Mangeshkar and Vinod Rathod.

Waaris was a social drama that revolved mostly around a wealthy and widowed Kishan Singh ( Pradeep Kumar ) who lives in a big and palatial house with his two sons Dulla ( Amrish Puri ) and Gajjan ( Kulbhushan Kharbanda ). He was required to will all his property between his sons. Though he willed all his property equally between his sons but he willed his vast area of the land to his son Gajjan only since he was unhappy with his son Dulla. Dulla was unhappy with this and this raises a quarrel amongst them in which his father Kishan was killed.

Dulla is arrested, and sentenced to 16 years in jail, leaving his 3 sons Thade ( Sudhir Pandey ), Dara ( Avtar Gill ) and Chhote ( Javed Khan ) dependent on Gajjan. Years later when all the children matured, Gajjan’s only son, Shravan came across a beautiful girl named Paramjeet alias Paro ( Smita Patil ) and fell in love with her. The only problem with her was that she belonged to a poor family and had a widowed mother, and a younger sister, Shibo ( Amrita Singh ). His father approves of Paro and soon both are married.
