The action thriller Zalzala was released on May 13, 1988. The movie was directed by Harish Shah and produced by Vinod Shah. The key roles in the movie were enacted by Dharmendra, Rajeev Kapoor, Anita Raaj and Danny Denzongpa while the supporting roles were played by Shatrughan Sinha, Vijeyta Pandit, Kimi Katkar, Lalita Pawar, Puneet Issar and Karan Kapoor. The music of the film was directed by Bappi Lahiri while the songs were sung by Kishore Kumar, Kavita Krishnamurthy and Sudesh Bhosle.

Zalzala was an action thriller flick that mostly revolved around Shera ( Puneet Issar ) who lived in rural India. One day, Shera came to know that there was a temple in the village with pure gold made some centuries ago. There was only one person who knew the location of the temple, he was none other than the aged Poojari ( Sudhir Dalvi ) himself. But this Poojari refuses to give any information, and even burns the only map in existence.

Shera catches the poojari and keeps him in isolation and that is not all, he also tortured him. What Shera does not know that the Poojari has already passed on the information to former Police Inspector Shiv Kumar ( Dharmendra ). The Inspector was coming to attain all the information about the case of murder of his wife, Radha ( Rati Agnihotri ). Also heading for the temple are a bounty hunter who calls himself “Benaam” and Shankar; a runaway bride, Paro, and her lover, Bholey ( Rajeev Kapoor ).
