Dev Anand and Kalpana Kartik starrer romantic flick, Taxi Driver, was released in the year 1954. The movie was directed by Chetan Anand under the banner of Navketan International Films. The other starcast of the movie includes Johnny Walker, Parveen Paul, Veron Corke, Rashid Khan, Sheila Ramani, Ratan gaurang and Hameed in important characters. The hit evergreen music of the movie was directed by the legendary music director Sachin Dev Burman while the songs were beautifully sung by Kishore Kumar, Talat Mehmood, Lata Mangeshkar, Asha Bhonsle etc.

Mangal aka Hero ( Dev Anand ) is a taxi driver by profession. He is romantically involved with a girl named Sylvie ( Sheila Ramani ), who is a dancer. He genrally drive taxi in day and at night he drinks alcohol. He drinks to the maximum extent until he looses his conciousness. He comes across a beautiful girl named Mala ( Kalpana Karthik ). He rescues her from two thiefs who were trying to molest her. He then drops her at her destination but his efforts goes in vain as the person for which she is looking for was not there. He then ask her about her address so that he can drop her home but she refuses to tell him anything.

Mala ask him to take her to him home as she needs shelter in his house for some days. Mangal takes her to his home. The very next day, Mala and mangal once again tries to locate the person but fails. After spending some time togther in the house, Mala and Mangal falls in love with each other. But when Mala learns about mangal’s girlfriend, she immediately leaves him. Mangal goes to search her but fails miserably. Then after few months, he learns that Mala is now a famous singer.
